NIH funded postdoctoral position available to investigate the role of spared brain regions on functional motor recovery after acquired brain injury (stroke, traumatic brain injury) utilizing animal models. This position offers an exciting opportunity to study the mechanisms of neuroplasticity and rehabilitation utilizing microelectrode array recording and stimulation techniques.Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment.
Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment, the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career. A postdoctoral scholar at KUMC is expected to: Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research, train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research, as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor, participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia, participate in the University’s Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars, have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree (such as MD, DVM, PsyD, PharmD, etc.), and candidates should have strong English skills and demonstrate an ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience. Candidates must be able to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects. Ideally, the fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze data, write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications, and supervise graduate students.

Education: PhD in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Bioengineering, Physiology or related fields.

Job Duties Outlined:
Conduct research on brain connectivity patterns using chronic neuronal recording techniques in behaving animals.
Assist in behavioral traning of animals
Prepare written and oral reports on research progress and participate in the preparation of manuscripts for publication.
Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.
Actively apply for Postdoctoral Fellowship funding from various sponsors.
Assist in training other postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research assistants in techniques used for investigation of brain connectivity.
Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, understand and follow IACUC, animal, and biosafety protocols, and attend regular lab meetings.

SalaryCompensation Statement:
The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
