The Research Team of Energy Storage is now looking for a
Postdoctoral Researcher in the heat storage modelling
Are you passionate about emission-free mobility? Have you ever wondered how to apply materials developed in the lab to the real world?
We are now looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join an exciting research project on the thermal management of Battery Electric Buses using heat storage materials. In this project, you will have the chance to conduct cutting-edge research and have a real-world impact at the same time. You will also work in a diverse and multi-disciplinary research team, and you will develop a network of industrial and academic stakeholders.
Your role and goals
In this role you will:
- Perform Comsol modelling of heat flows in larger heat storage modules.
- Have knowledge on the phase change materials (PCM) and their utilization in real life applications.
- Be involved in the experimental PCM testing and characterization along with their integration into electric buses for thermal management.
- Collaborate with industrial and academic stakeholders on the research project
- Mentor and advise other researchers up to the PhD student level
- Write and publish high-quality scientific papers, present at high-impact conferences
- Contribute to the drafting of grant proposals
- Perform and support teaching activities
Your experience and ambitions
To excel in this role, you possess:
- A doctoral degree in a relevant field
- Experience in COMSOL modelling of heat transfer, preferable with PCM materials
- Strong fundamentals in heat transfer and thermodynamics
- Experience in the experimental synthesis and characterization of thermal energy storage materials is considered as an asset
- Experience with batteries, EVs and their thermal management is also seen as an asset
- Excellent scientific writing and presentation skills in English
- A willingness to mentor and teach

Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities. The salary is determined according to the applicant's experience and qualifications. The starting salary of a postdoc is about 4000 € / month (gross), with a possible increase based on achievements. The annual workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1612 hours. The employment contract includes occupational health care, and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. The employment relationship is full-time, fixed-term (period of 2.5 years) employment at Aalto University. Activities are located in the Otaniemi campus of Aalto University in Espoo, part of the Helsinki capital region of Finland.
