Job Description

Texas A&M AgriLife Research at Corpus Christi is seeking a highly motivated scientist to work on a project to evaluate carbon cycling and water footprint of a cool-season legume and warm-season biomass crop production system. The project lies in the intersection of Unoccupied Aerial Systems (UAS) and remote sensing, cropping system agronomy, and soil science.

The research is located in South Texas, primarily Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Corpus Christi. The candidate will be located in Corpus Christi but requires some travel to other locations for data collection, presentations, and meetings. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop experimental plans, manage experimental sites, collect field data, install sensors and retrieve data from those sensors. Specific sensors include EnviroPro water sensor and Gasmet/Licor FTIR greenhouse gas analyzer.
  • Publish peer-reviewed papers and support grant writing.
  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with scientists from crop physiology, agronomy, Extension, plant breeding, mechanical engineering and computer science.
  • Travel required to other location for data collection, presentation, and meetings.
  • Other job related duties as needed.

Required Education:

  • Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Physiology, Soil Science or related discipline.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Work in a team and independently as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to travel for data collection, presentations, and meetings.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with remotely sensed geospatial data products obtained from UAS is preferred.
  • Experience with measuring soil greenhouse fluxes and installations of systems to measure those fluxes is preferred.
