About the opportunity
The University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to join a new research initiative between the University of Sydney and UTS in the area of nonlinear optics with applications in optical limiting. The successful candidate will conduct research using experimental nonlinear optical techniques and conventional photonic fabrication processes to develop and test nonlinear guided-wave geometries on chip with the aim to optimise the optical limiting functionalities. The experimental research will be carried out mainly at the University of Sydney, with researchers based across the two institutions.
JOB IS FROM: postdocjobs.oneVIEWThis research is to be conducted with the support of the Defence Science and Technology Group of the Department of Defence. In accordance with Defence policy, the Research Collaborator will be required to achieve and maintain DISP Entry Level to participate in the proposed research program.

a PhD in Physics or Engineering (candidates who are near completion may also be considered)
proven research ability, and the evidence of self-motivation, passion and research potential
excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to interact with a variety of researchers and stakeholders
a demonstrated excellence in research in linear and nonlinear photonics through, but not exclusively, published research in refereed journals
knowledge and experience in fabrication techniques specifically focused on manufacturing high-quality structures for Photonics applications (e.g. waveguides, gratings, ring resonators, etc.)
the ability to conduct and develop optical tests on photonic devices in free space optical setups, e.g. optical microscope and custom-built optical benches, as well as modifying these setups if required
knowledge in experimental nonlinear optics and photonics
experience with the visualisation of results of experimental data
demonstrated ability to conduct research under limited supervision, either independently or as part of a team.
To ensure the successful delivery of the research program, we will need a candidate to start as soon as possible.
To apply for this role, please address each of the above criteria in a cover letter that you attach to your application.
