JOB SUMMARY:
The Optics and Photonics Theory group at the Department of Civil, Computer, and Electrical Engineering at Saint Louis University School of Science and Engineering is seeking a postdoctoral fellow. The preferred starting date is September 1st, 2024. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary research team that investigate non-Hermitian light-matter interaction in various domain (quantum, nonlinear, etc) with potential applications in sensing and laser engineering.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducting research on non-Hermitian optics and nonlinear quantum photonics.
- Collaborating with faculty and staff on theory development, design of experiments and interpretation of experimental data.
- Writing reports and academic papers for publication in relevant journals.
- Participating in grant writing and seeking funding opportunities.
- Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration within the department and with external partners.
- Assisting in the mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students involved in research projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field to optics and photonics (e.g., Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering).
- Experience in conducting research in the field of optics and photonics; with deep knowledge of optical platforms such as waveguide and fiber optics, optical microrecavities, semiconductor lasers.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Mathematica, or Python.
- Proficiency in using electromagnetic simulation software packages
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
