Postdoctoral Research Associate (usyd)

usyd    Darlington Campus    2024-12-04

Job posting number: #156905 (Ref:0125819)

Job Description

  • Full time, 2-year fixed term position. Located at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering on Darlington Campus

  • Opportunity to contribute to fundamental research questions at the intersection of systems control, machine learning and control-oriented modeling of human behaviour

  • Base Salary $109,301 - $116,679 (Level A) + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

Many cyberphysical systems are operated using wireless communications and rely upon interactions between technology and humans. Typical examples include uncrewed vehicles, robotic systems and critical infrastructure. Systems of this kind crucially use wireless networks to transmit sensor and actuator signals, and interact with humans at various integration levels. The fact that wireless communications are unreliable and human behaviour is difficult to predict raises significant challenges for the design of cyberphysical systems.

The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Control of Cyberphysical and Human Systems to work on fundamental research questions at the intersection of systems control, machine learning and control-oriented modeling of human behaviour. The successful candidate will research and develop optimisation-based control methods that jointly address dynamic uncertainties from communication and human components.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • plan and carry out cutting edge research that advances the state of the art in this area

  • prepare and publish research outcomes in top level refereed journals and conferences

  • present research outcomes at conferences and workshops

  • assist in the preparation of research grant proposals

  • on occasions, lead the creation of technology demonstrators for assessing and validating research

  • assist with supervision of honours and postgraduate students.

About you

The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Control of Cyberphysical and Human Systems who has:

  • demonstrated programming experience using Matlab or Python.

Please note all candidates are required to provide a full list of publications in their cover letter and/or CV.
