Job posting number: #156925 (Ref:R129185)
Job Description
About the Opportunity
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Northeastern University, located in the heart of Boston, MA, welcomes applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position. This position will provide an exciting opportunity to be involved in one of the NASA Physics of the Cosmos Missions, GRAMS (Gamma-Ray and AntiMatter Search), while globally collaborating with other research groups. GRAMS aims for both astrophysical observations with gamma rays in the MeV energy range and indirect dark matter searches with antinuclei measurements using the Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LArTPC) detector.
We are currently preparing for the prototype balloon flight supported by the NASA APRA program scheduled in late 2025 or early 2026. We plan the first science balloon flight in the late 2020s, followed by a potential upgrade with a satellite mission in the 2030s. The successful candidate will engage in the LArTPC detector development for an advanced Compton Camera and antimatter measurements at Northeastern University. As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, they will acquire valuable research skills and advance their scientific career.
Our group also engages in other dark matter search experiments, SuperCDMS (Cryogenic Dark Matter Search) and GAPS (General Antiparticle Spectrometer), and the applicant could also work on these projects.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, research statement (no more than two pages) and three letters of recommendation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will maintain the laboratory research team and exercise functional supervision over supporting research staff. Individuals should have the ability and desire to innovate when these are insufficient. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also assist with the interpretation and publication of results and grants.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Physics or a related field. Applicants should also have a strong research record and experience, including data analysis and laboratory work, preferably in hardware development for balloon missions. The successful candidate will undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship, work under the supervision of a senior scholar, and communicate and coordinate with multiple senior researchers/collaborators in different institutions.
