JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Eberly College of Science, Department of Physics LIGO group is seeking to fill a postdoctoral scholar position in Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory. This person will work under Chad Hanna, and their responsibilities include leading projects in real-time gravitational wave detection and parameter inference of neutron stars and black holes to support multimessenger astrophysics. They will also develop new methods and contribute to the ever-growing catalog of LIGO discoveries.
The ideal candidate is expected to develop infrastructure to support the production of the CBC catalog. The successful candidate is expected to have strong analytical skills and experience with signal processing, Bayesian statistics and machine learning. Exemplary software engineering skills are also required. Most importantly we are looking for a clear scientific leader with tremendous capacity to advance the field. This position has ample opportunity for mentoring students and for collaborative work within the Institute for Gravitation and the Cosmos and the Institute for Computational and Data Science.
The candidate must have a PhD in Physics, Astronomy or a closely related field. This is a term position funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding.
