About the Opportunity

JOB SUMMARY

The suitable candidate will be working in the broad area of Metamaterials with focus on developing mid-IR (infrared) light sources. The candidate must be well versed in metamaterials, optics, and Rigorous Coupled Wave Analysis methodology. Furthermore, experience in nanofabrication, lithography, and experimental measurements in optics and use of Fourier Transform Spectrometers (FTIR) is required. The candidate will assist in planning experiments, acquiring preliminary results for preparation of grants and proposals, and writing and submitting research articles for publication. The candidate will supervise the overall maintenance of the laboratory in collaboration with other graduate students. May be responsible for purchasing and budget administration.  May present research. The current appointment is for one year and will be extended as appropriate into future years.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrates the ability to plan and execute research.  Excellent verbal, and written communication skills, attention to details, as well as training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis.  Previous supervisory experience desired.  Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

The level and mixture of the duties may vary by position but typically include a combination of the following responsibilities.

1) Perform research.

2) Prepare and write research papers, grant proposals, presentations, etc.

3) Train and supervise graduate students.

4) Laboratory management.

5) Purchasing and budget administration.
