Job Title:
Post Doctoral ScholarDepartment:
Arts and Sciences | Earth SciencesThe Geodesy and Geodynamics (G2) Research Group at The Ohio State University School of Earth Sciences invites applications for a Post Doctoral Scholar to join our team within the area of physical geodesy and satellite gravimetry to embark on a program of independent research. The Post Doctoral Scholar will support ongoing and planned research on mathematical aspects of celestial mechanics of the CisLunar regime, satellite orbits, and geodetic positioning, and on the representation and measurement of the gravitational field. The Post Doctoral Scholar will collaborate with the instrument design team to work on instrument requirements and relate the performance of the instruments to the performance of geodetic applications of those instruments. The Post Doctoral Scholar will devise algorithms and write software that can simulate the overall system, and project the performance of a future realization of the technology being developed. The Post Doctoral Scholar will be preparing manuscripts for publication.
Required Qualifications:
· PhD in geodesy or related area
· Ability to design, trouble shoot and perfect scientific software.
· Knowledge of orbital dynamics, numerical methods and experience with spherical harmonic polynomials of ultra-high degree.
· Expertise in scientific computer programming
Desired Qualifications:
· Research experience in global gravity modeling for the Earth or other planets.
Additional Information:
The Geodesy and Geodynamics (G2) group in the Division of Geodetic Science of the School of Earth Sciences focuses on crustal motion geodesy, GPS meteorology, the definition and realization of geometrical reference frames, physical geodesy, terrestrial gravity measurement in mountain chains and in the theory underpinning global gravity modeling. The G2 groups uses geodesy to investigate many aspects of earth system dynamics, including plate tectonics, the earthquake deformation cycle, mountain building, postglacial rebound, elastic loading phenomena, sea-level change, and water vapor dynamics and climatology. They have built geodetic networks in the South Pacific, the Andes, Greenland, and Antarctica. This position is an opportunity to join Ohio State University’s internationally renowned Geodetic Science program.
