Position Details:
A full time Postdoctoral Fellow/PhD-trained Scientific Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Rita Fuchs, in the Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN) at Washington State University (WSU) in Pullman, WA.
Summary of Duties:
Successful candidates will conduct NIH funded research on the neurobiological link between drug memories and drug relapse. Studies will map neuronal microcircuits, or engrams, that encode drug memories, phenotype engram cells, and examine adaptations in these microcircuits that correspond to changes in memory strength. Experiments will utilize a combination of in vivo optogenetics, fiber photometry, immunohistochemistry, ex vivo optogenetics, slice electrophysiology, and a novel translational model of cocaine relapse. Fellows will receive technical and theoretical training relevant for the project and strong support as they develop extramural research proposals and independent projects.
Candidates with expertise in sterile surgical procedures, electrophysiology, fiber photometry, MATLAB coding, and/or rodent behavior will have an advantage. Start date is flexible.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience or a related field, strong written and oral communication skills, a demonstrated record of accomplishments, and less than 5 years of research experience since receipt of the doctoral degree.

Annual Salary:
$60,000 - $70,000
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Temporary End Date:
This is a temporary position expected to end on March 31, 2026. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
