About the role:

We are currently seeking for a talented and driven Post Doctoral Research Scientist to join our laboratory. This key position will become an integral part of an established team of experts who study the molecular mechanisms controlling appetite, energy expenditure and adiposity using several different conditional knockout mouse models. 

The Post Doctoral Research Scientist will be expected to demonstrate competence in in situ hybridisation, immunohistochemistry and other related localisation techniques. Expertise in stereotactic brain injections is an absolute requirement and knowledge in opto- and chemogenetic techniques an advantage. This full-time position is for an initial fixed 2-year term.

About you:

  • PhD degree in Science or Medicine

  • A strong background in neuroanatomy

  • Demonstrated competence in in situ hybridisation, immunohistochemistry and other related localisation techniques

  • Expertise in stereotactic brain injections is an absolute requirement

  • Knowledge in opto- and chemogenetics techniques is also required

  • Able to demonstrate autonomy and consistent work quality

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Competent computer skills (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Illustrator,Prism)

Key Responsibilities

Post-Doctoral Scientist:

  • In vivo and in vitro analysis of parameters from various knockout mice using physiological, in situ and immunohistochemical techniques

  • Perform stereotactic brain injections for opto- and chemogenetic experiments to evaluate a variety of parameters in relation to feeding behaviour and energy homeostasis control

  • Collating experimental data, writing up experimental procedures and interpreting experimental results

  • Being mainly responsible for the writing of manuscripts, with an emphasis on submissions to highly quality journals

  • Communicating your research as well as relevant publications and developments in the field to those involved

  • Recommending ways of improving techniques, quantitative methods and quality control

Selection Criteria:

2. PhD in biomedical or life sciences from a recognized tertiary organization
3. Understanding of, and demonstrated experience with achievement of, the demands, skills, techniques, and requirements listed
4. Ability to work effectively as a member of a diverse and multidisciplinary team and to work unsupervised, directing own work and the work of different personality types, as assigned.
5. High level conceptual, innovative, and analytic skills, particularly in the areas of project development and implementation, organizational development and management and data and ideas management
6. Flexibility, adaptability, agility, and responsiveness to succeed in a high demand environment with multiple changing priorities, many unknowns at any given time, and a requirement for constant learning to meet evolving and varied project and program needs
7. Ability to write high quality journal articles, grant applications, ethics and other compliance documents, and a diverse range of reports and other documents as required
