About the Opportunity
SUMMARY
The Machine Intelligence Group for the betterment of Health and the Environment (MIGHTE), led by Professor Mauricio Santillana, is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the team and conduct cutting-edge research on disease dynamics and epidemiological modeling. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work on developing and applying mathematical and computational models to understand the transmission, evolution, and control of infectious diseases. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will collaborate with other researchers, public health agencies, and stakeholders to provide insights and guidance for disease prevention and intervention strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, implement, and validate mathematical and computational models of infectious disease dynamics, using data from various sources and methods such as differential equations, agent-based models, network models, statistical inference, machine learning, etc.
Conduct data analysis, visualization, and interpretation to evaluate model performance, identify key drivers and patterns of disease spread, and assess the impact of different scenarios and interventions.
Communicate research findings and recommendations to internal and external audiences through scientific publications, presentations, reports, and briefings.

Collaborate with other researchers within the team and across disciplines to integrate multidisciplinary perspectives and expertise into the modeling framework.
Keep abreast of the latest developments and literature in the field of disease dynamics and epidemiological modeling.
QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, engineering, epidemiology, or related discipline(s). PhD is required by the start date of the appointment.
Strong background and experience in mathematical and computational modeling of infectious disease dynamics, preferably with applications to emerging or re-emerging diseases.
Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar tools for data analysis and model development.
Experience in working with large and complex datasets from diverse sources such as surveillance systems, genomic sequences, social media, etc.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both scientific and non-scientific audiences.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and interdisciplinary research environment.
