About the Opportunity

The Critical Futures Lab led by Professor Laura Forlano is looking to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate to help support the interdisciplinary research activities of this lab. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work on projects associated with the Critical Futures Lab related to data physicalization through weaving, textiles and computational fashion; qualitative and ethnographic research about local manufacturing; AI, wearable technology and embodiment; participatory and speculative futures around emerging technologies. The position is for 2 years. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must have been awarded a PhD in Media, Design, Science and Technology Studies (STS), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or a closely related field by the appointment start date.
  • A successful candidate will have an interdisciplinary background and an interest in textiles, weaving, wearable technology, and computational fashion.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work on projects related to data physicalization through weaving, textiles and computational fashion;
  • qualitative and ethnographic research about local manufacturing;
  • AI, wearable technology and embodiment; participatory and speculative futures around emerging technologies as part of the Critical Futures Lab.

  • This position involves developing research projects involves grant writing, writing academic papers, lab management, and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students.
