Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
This 2-year Post Doc position will be part of the USDA SAS project RegenPGC on introduction of perennial groundcover crops (PGC) into maize soybean rotations, specifically contribute to the following objective: Evaluate significance and mechanisms for Genotype x Management interactions. Two sets of maize germplasm will be evaluated under PGC and conventional conditions: testcrosses of genotyped inbred lines will be evaluated under PGC and conventional conditions in at least one location in IA, KS, NE in collaboration with The Land Institute and Corteva Agriscience. Grain yield is the target trait but other site-relevant agronomic traits will be measured. These trials will reveal the relative importance of GxM and GxExM interactions. A major question to be addressed is, whether dedicated maize breeding programs (using doubled haploid technology) are needed for cultivation in PGC systems. Another important question is, whether the performance under PGC conditions can be (genomically) predicted based on performance under conventional conditions.
