Job Description
OPEN POSITION
Environmental Distribution of Legacy and Emerging Pollutants
A postdoctoral appointment is available with Dr. Carla Ng's Research Group at the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering to explore the environmental and biological distribution of persistent legacy and emerging contaminants using complementary field and laboratory approaches.
We seek a highly motivated person to evaluate the partitioning and fate of persistent organic chemicals including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, and other legacy and emerging halogenated contaminants within environmental and biological systems. The successful applicant will possess a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related fields, have an excellent academic record, and work well in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment. The candidate should have completed the Ph.D. prior to the date of joining, and have extensive experience in mass spectrometry applied to complex matrices. This position will involve field sampling and laboratory analysis as well as the development of innovative in vitro techniques to simulate partitioning and distribution into environmental and biological phases of interest. There will be an opportunity to contribute to graduate and undergraduate mentoring and develop new research areas; the University of Pittsburgh has a strong postdoctoral mentorship program and avenues for pursuing internal research funding for pilot projects.
The appointment will be for one year with the possibility for an extension based on satisfactory performance and continued availability of funding. The anticipated start date is January 8th, 2024. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
Candidates from underrepresented minority groups and women are strongly encouraged to apply for this position.
