The Department of Medicine, Vascular Medicine Institute is hiring a Postdoc Associate.  The Postdoc Associate will be situated in the laboratory space of Dr. Jesus Tejero but will be co-supervised by Dr. Yvette Yien and Dr. Tejero.  They will carry out research to identify protein-protein interactions between the CLPX mitochondrial protein unfoldase and its protein partners in different mammalian cell types, with the goal of understanding the developmental stage and tissue-specific roles of CLPX in heme regulation.  To carry out these studies, the Postdoc Associate will carry out tissue dissections, cell sorting, mammalian tissue culture, and biochemical techniques (protein purification, metabolic labeling, enzymatic assays).   They will also participate in collaborative projects between the Tejero and Yien labs.  The scholar will also take part in the general day-to-day maintenance of the Tejero lab and do their share of lab chores, ordering, and tracking reagents, and abiding by all regulatory and safety protocols that govern the lab within the VMI and university.  They will also participate in training junior researchers.  The Postdoc Associate will write manuscripts and presentations of their work with the assistance of the project PIs, Drs. Minimum requirements – Ph.D. in any field of biology or biochemistry with experience in molecular biology, protein characterization, and biophysical techniques.  Cell biology experience is a plus.
