Job Description
The Department of Medicine, Heart, Lung, and Blood Vascular Medicine Institute (VMI) at the University of Pittsburgh is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join Dr. Tomasz Brzoska’s group. The focus of this position will be the study of molecular and biophysical mechanisms governing the interaction between blood cells, extracellular vesicles, and the vascular wall in mediating hemostasis and thrombo-inflammation, in both physiological and pathophysiological conditions. Specific projects will delve into the study of hemostatic abnormalities associated with sickle cell disease. Dr. Brzoska’s research involves state-of-the-art intravital microscopy of mouse pulmonary microcirculation, as well as in vitro studies utilizing both human subjects' blood samples and human cell cultures.
The VMI is dedicated to conducting rigorous, cutting-edge basic and translational research in vascular biology. We maintain uniformly high scientific standards and expectations. The fellow will be strongly supported by a mentor and will engage in mentor-facilitated independent research, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals, present research progress at relevant scientific meetings and public forums, and pursue applicable funding opportunities. Salary will be commensurate with experience, following current NIH guidelines. Successful candidates will need to obtain Department of Justice security clearance for handling Select Agents and Toxins, as mandated by Federal regulations.
