About This Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow to join the world-class research team of Academics and PhD cohort at the Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences Centre (QAEHS) within our Faculty of Health and Behavioural Sciences.
Supported by a Laureate Fellowship awarded to Prof Jochen Mueller, this opportunity will support development of world leading research related to understanding the human exposome (sum of human exposures to chemicals). The Laureate project aims to develop effective tools to understand spatio-temporal trends and factors that drive chemical exposure to identify emerging chemicals of concern. The project will assess factors that affect exposure and model exposure based on chemical production, use and fate. Outcomes will support evidence-based regulation and management of chemicals to minimise adverse impacts of chemical exposure in Australia.
As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow, you will conduct independent research within, and supervise students engaged in, one or more of the following main fields of activity:
Identification of novel relevant exposure biomarkers that are useful for assessing spatio-temporal trends in exposure; or
Understanding human exposure pathways to emerging contaminants through assessment of trends in human biomonitoring and environmental monitoring data; or
Evaluating factors driving human exposure to emerging contaminants by assessing underlying metadata (e.g. age, gender, sources of chemicals, population lifestyle) using big data Bayesian and other statistical method; or
Development and application of trace analytical methods for target and non-target chemical analysis of human metabolites in urine, blood and other biotic matrices, as well as abiotic matrices, using GC-HRMS, GC-MSMS, LC-MSMS and/or LC-QToF methods; or
Application of mechanistic modelling to predict changes in human exposure to chemicals over time and space.
This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to 31 December 2025. This opportunity is being offered at Academic Level A or Level B commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills, abilities and experience.
