Job Description

 

A Postdoctoral Associate Position in the Department of Immunology is available under the mentorship of Dr. Marlies Meisel at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.  The postdoc candidate will investigate how we can change the tissue microbiome by using fecal microbial transplants.  Furthermore, the applicant will investigate how the tissue microbiome modulates systemic immune responses to enhance cancer immunotherapy in gut distal cancers.

The Meisel lab is striving to define how the commensal gut microbiota, environmental/metabolic factors, and the genetic/epigenetic equipment of the host impact on systemic immunity during health and complex diseases, such as multiple sclerosis (MS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Alzheimer’s disease liver fibrosis/hepatocellular carcinoma and cancer.

Candidates will work directly with Dr. Meisel and will develop skills in a wide variety of computational and experimental techniques. The candidate will also create several career-related skill sets, including manuscript preparation, oral presentations, and grant writing. 

The Candidate will be expected to work productively, diligently, conscientiously, and ethically on their research projects and any other assignments that Dr. Meisel, as the principal investigator, may request.  This Candidate's continued appointment is contingent on satisfactory annual progress and performance evaluations.

Salary is commensurate with experience and based on current 2023 NIH Stipend Levels

Qualifications:  Qualified Candidates will have earned a PhD Degree in Biology or a related field.
