Job Description

JOB IS FROM: postdocjobs.oneVIEWA postdoctoral associate position is available immediately in Dr. Jay Tan’s lab in the Aging Institute and Department of Cell Biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. The Lab is seeking a highly-motivated postdoc team member to study molecular mechanisms underlying cellular homeostasis and stress response. Organelle stress and damages are common risk factors in aging and diseases. A major goal of our lab is elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying the sensing, repairing, and clearance of damaged organelles in mammalian cells. We search for essential, unifying principles behind complex stress responses through unbiased approaches, and dissect underlying mechanisms with multidisciplinary methods including molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, and genetics. Current research topics include lysosomal quality control in aging and neurodegeneration, inter-organelle communications in cellular homeostasis, and lysosomal stress in innate immunity and age-related inflammation.

The candidate will work on projects with solid preliminary data, with high-impact publications expected. The candidate will receive extensive training in cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, mouse models, and most importantly independent thinking. The candidate will make progress in both research and career, with additional training in science communication, research development, project management, and fellowship application.

The candidate must have a recently awarded Ph.D. degree in a science-related field such as Molecular Biology or Cell Biology (within the last five years), an MD degree (within the last ten years), or an equivalent doctorate degree (e.g., ScD, DVM, etc.) upon initial appointment at the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Postdoctoral Associate guidelines apply.
