The Laboratory of Song Tan in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and the Center for Eukaryotic Gene Regulation at Penn State seeks Postdoctoral Scholars to determine the structures of chromatin complexes using cryoelectron microscopy. We are interested in epigenetic chromatin enzymes or transcription factors in complex with their nucleosome targets.
Our research efforts are enhanced by:
(a) Techniques we have developed to co-express complexes in vivo
(b) Techniques to reconstitute chromatin complexes in vitro
(c) Excellent access to Penn State’s Titan Krios and Arctica electron microscopes both equipped with Falcon 4 detectors.
The Center for Gene Regulation is a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment which includes the groups of Drs. Jean-Paul Armache, Lu Bai, David Gilmour, Ross Hardison, Scott Lindner, Manuel Llinás, Shaun Mahony, Joe Reese, Scott Showalter and Song Tan, each with research programs targeted at understanding the molecular basis for gene regulation on chromatin templates.
Education and Experience
Electron Microscopists, Crystallographers, Molecular Biologists and Biochemists with a Ph.D. are encouraged to apply. Prior experience with cryoelectron microscopy, macromolecular crystallography, chromatin biology or biochemistry is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who have received their Ph.D. degree in the last three years.
