Postdoctoral Researcher in Mathematics: Geometry and arithmetic arising from knot homology
We are looking for a candidate with a strong research background in one or more of the following areas: algebraic geometry, representation theory, arithmetic geometry, automorphic forms, number theory, low-dimensional topology, symplectic geometry, quantum field/string theory, and algebraic combinatorics.
Possible research topics include:
- The local(-to-global) theory of automorphic forms
- Algebraic geometry around curve counting invariants and their categorification
- Geometric representation theory
- Arithmetic geometry in equal and mixed characteristic
- The relationship between algebraic geometry and Floer theory, in particular motivic integration
- The physical mathematics of supersymmetric gauge theories
The expected start date for the position is September 1, 2024, or earlier, and the tentative duration of the position is two years, with an option to renew the contract subject to mutual agreement. The initial starting salary for a postdoc with no prior experience is 3887 eur/month, together with occupational healthcare. Additionally, for this position, competitive travel funding is available.
The applicant is expected to hold a PhD degree in mathematics or theoretical physics. A research level proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is expected.

The position will be supervised by Assistant Prof. Oscar Kivinen (http://math.aalto.fi/~kivineo3/), whose research group is part of the Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis at Aalto (https://math.aalto.fi/en/). In addition to the various research groups at Aalto, there are strong interactions between the department and that of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Helsinki.
