Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join their team.  This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing support for designing, synthesize, and characterize multifunctional inks capable for printed soft electronics and transducers and such other tasks that are assigned to you.

Professor Majidi’s career mission is to discover materials, hardware architectures, and fabrication methods that allow robots and machines to behave like soft biological organisms, and be safe for contact with humans. The aim is to replace the bulky and rigid hardware in existing robots with soft, lightweight, and deformable technologies that match the functionality of natural biological tissue. Currently, his group is focused on filled-elastomer composites and soft microfluidic systems that exhibit unique combinations of mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties and can function as “artificial” skin, nervous tissue, and muscle for soft robotics and wearables.

Core responsibilities include:

• Performing independent research in Prof. Majidi’s lab.  

• Maintaining laboratory equipment used to perform research.

• Reporting progress to project advisor, research collaborators, and funding sponsors.

• Documenting research accomplishments and reporting work in a peer-reviewed journal.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• PhD in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, chemistry, or related disciplines

Requirements:

• 3- 5 year experience performing research on topics with soft materials engineering, printed electronics, soft robotics, and/or liquid metal.

• Graduate level research experience on topics related to soft materials engineering, printed electronics, soft robotics, and/or liquid metal.
