Job Description
The DRI-ICE Laboratory (PI Tom Hartvigsen) at the University of Virginia School of Data Science is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to conduct cutting edge research at the intersection of Natural Language Processing and Medicine. The ideal candidate should possess expertise in natural language processing. Topics include, but are not limited to:
Text Summarization
Knowledge Graphs
Retrieval Augmented Generation
Large language models
This position involves active participation in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research program. The focus of the research is developing innovative methods for retrieving and summarizing medical evidence from multiple sources of dynamic literature. Responsibilities include developing research code, disseminating research through publications, and mentoring PhD students. The lab’s extensive collaboration network spans academic, industrial, and clinical institutions, offering opportunities for broad impact and active feedback. This multidisciplinary and highly collaborative environment provides and exceptional opportunity for candidates to thrive and establish themselves as an expert in NLP with numerous opportunities in academia, industry, and government.
The position is offered for one year, continuation is contingent upon funding and satisfactory performance.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD degree in computer science, data science, or related fields by the start date of the appointment
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Robust machine learning and natural language processing skills
Proficient computer programming skills
