A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Associate Professor Roger McIntosh, in the Department of Psychology, University of Miami.

This position is funded by an NIH R01 grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. The project focuses on using ecological momentary assessments (EMA) to compare real-time levels of psychosocial stress to ambulatory heart rate variability and inflammatory biomarkers and determine whether the interaction of these factors predicts coronary artery disease calcification in persons living with HIV.

JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                       

  • Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.
  • Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.
  • Development of pre-processing and analytic pipelines for psychophysiological data (e.g., ECG, PPG, fMRI, skin conductance), using advanced software analysis programs (AFNI, SPM12, Conn, DPABI, MATLAB, Biopac, Kubios, etc.).
  • Support undergraduate and graduate students in a collaborative research environment.
  • Assist with other aspects of study management.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                        

Education:

Ph.D. in relevant field

Experience:

Applicants should have experience in project management and scientific writing/publications.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Candidates should have a PhD in neuroscience, physiology, psychology or computer science with expertise in one or more of the following areas: emotion regulation processes, electrocardiography, computational modeling, fMRI. Candidates should be fluent and versatile at coding and visualization in MATLAB and/or Python. Data management and integration with RedCAP and cloud-based software, quality assurance of data acquisition and protocols for a combined fMRI-ecological momentary assessment study are amongst the main activities. Executing data collection, mentoring and training junior lab personnel, collecting, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data, preparing graphs, figures, and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals are secondary responsibilities. We seek individuals who enjoy working on challenging problems with enthusiasm and creative rigor in a collaborative team-based environment. The postdoctoral fellow will also have opportunities to pursue collaborative projects involving central autonomic network function, psycho-neuro-immunology, cardiovascular behavioral medicine, and psychoneuroendocrinology. This position is open to both US citizens and foreign nationals. Start date is flexible.
