Job Description
Innovation. Interdisciplinary collaboration. Complex problem solving. In Carnegie Mellon University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, faculty members, researchers, and students are revolutionizing focus areas in advanced manufacturing, bioengineering, computational engineering, energy and the environment, product design, and robotics. In addition, they are using their expertise in interdisciplinary research centers across the university.
Carnegie Mellon University’s department of Mechanical Engineering is searching for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by combining manufacturing and transport phenomena in carbon management, and working with Professors Panat, Ozdoganlar and Panagakos to demonstrate scalable and low-cost manufacture of porous metal-oxide-frameworks (MOFs) via freeze casting for CO2 capture. You will also obtain the preliminary data that will establish CO2 capture from these structures, and such other tasks that are assigned to you.
The Panat lab focuses on micro-scale additive manufacturing and its applications to biomedical devices and energy materials. Specifically, his group works on high performance biosensors, biomonitoring devices, and brain-computer interfaces. The process development side focuses on using fundamentals of mechanics to enable new manufacturing processes that lead to structures with enhanced functionality. The application side focuses on bringing the advances in microfabrication to the field of biomedical engineering in order to create devices that can benefit the public health. He recently developed the fastest known COVID-19 antibody test with high sensitivity due to a unique, 3D printing technology and an electrochemical reaction.
