Job Description
The Biochemistry and Microbiology Division of New England Biolabs (NEB) is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Eaglesham Lab. The successful candidate will lead a research effort in discovery of prokaryotic defense systems using a new high-throughput screening platform. Hits from their screen will then be characterized through internal and external collaboration using a variety of techniques from bacterial and viral genetics to bioinformatics, protein biochemistry and structural biology. Research will be undertaken in an open and collaborative environment where communication of ideas and publication of results are expected.
Primary Responsibilities:
Perform high-throughput screens for identification/characterization of defense systems using an existing platform
Validate hits using standard E. coli bacterial genetics and bacteriophage virology methods
Collaborate internally and externally to investigate biochemical functions of new systems
Communicate discoveries to the NEB and scientific communities through oral presentations and peer-reviewed publications
Required Qualifications:
PhD in bacterial genetics, virology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Strong publication record
Strong interpersonal skills
Enthusiasm for learning new things
Desire to mentor student interns
